The album We Don’t Trust You, by Future and Metro Boomin, was released on March 8, 2024. This record was Future’s ninth, and Metro’s eighth studio album. This record fits into the hip hop/rap genre, but it also contains some elements of R&B here and there. Some appearances on this record include those by Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, and Playboi Carti, and none of these artists disappoint. The work that Metro has done throughout his time as a producer, and Future’s influence on the trap/rap genre, really come together for a top-tier rap album that has blown many people away.

“We Don’t Trust You” is the name of the first track on the record, and it’s definitely up there with some of the best opening tracks on any album. From the piano, to the samples from the song “Jumpman” by Drake (which also featured both Metro and Future), this track is an almost perfect opener.

“Type S***” (featuring. Travis Scott & Playboi Carti) was bound to be one of the most popular songs off the album, due to the featured artists alone. Metro’s production on this track really gives all three artists room to do their thing, and it gets you hyped every time you listen to it. This song also captures common issues in hip hop culture, such as the dangers of substance abuse and wealth.

“Like That” (featuring. Kendrick Lamar) is the most popular track off the album and this is partly because it’s a direct response to “First Person Shooter” by Drake (feat J. Cole). Metro also samples the song “Eazy” by Kanye West, which is also a diss-track against Drake.

On this track, Lamar boldly asserts his dominance over Drake and J. Cole, by rapping lyrics like, “There is no big three. It’s just big me.” And this song fueled the fire for J. Cole and Drake to both drop their own disses on Lamar, Metro and Future.

Overall, We Don’t Trust You is an amazing album, which brings out some of the best in Metro and all of the artists featured. And if you enjoyed listening to this album, you should also check out the sequel, We Still Don’t Trust You, also by Metro Boomin & Future.
