The 2023 movie Ferrari, directed by Michael Mann, is an American historical drama starring Adam Driver, Penelope Cruz and Shailene Woodley. This movie is available to rent on most streaming services, including Amazon Prime. I feel that everyone should watch Ferrari at least once, especially since it’s based on a true story.
The movie Ferrari tells the true story of Enzo Ferrari (Driver) and how he created an automotive empire. The film starts off showing his life as a racecar driver, but he eventually decides to retire. After Enzo faces many financial challenges, the only happiness in his life is his soon-to-be-complete family.
Ferrari and his wife, Laura (Cruz) build his company from scratch, but they take on many financial difficulties. Despite this, Ferrari and his wife always make it work, and yet he feels like there is something missing in his life. After years of a struggling marriage, Laura finally announces to Enzo that she is unexpectedly pregnant.
Enzo is overwhelmed with joy and can’t wait to have a child, hopefully a boy, who will carry on his legacy of race car driving. His wishes come true, and Laura gives birth to Alfredo, or Dino for short. Dino tries to follow in his father’s footsteps but a tragedy changes everything for their family.
The filmmaking in this movie is not so special, but the script is what makes this movie interesting to watch, and it even might compel you to do some research of your own afterwards. For people who are not so invested in cars, the story might get a little confusing at times, but ultimately, any viewer should be able to follow what is happening. This movie includes a lot of car terminology, but everyone will enjoy watching the races, and they will be amazed by the final outcome of all the work that Enzo has put into his empire.
Adam Driver, who plays Enzo, is a very well known actor and has starred in many well-known films, such as House of Gucci and the most recent Star Wars movies. He is perfect for this starring role, and he delivers many emotions, such as fear, regret, guilt and anger. This is not an easy character for any actor, but Driver handles the role perfectly.
In short, Ferrari is a watchable movie, especially for those who like cars. But is this film one that I would watch again? Personally, no.
But if you enjoy this movie, then go ahead and watch similar movies, like Ford v. Ferrari, Rush and possibly Baby Driver, for those of you who like thrillers.
