Hong Kong is calling!
The day before one of her tournaments near Palm Springs, Glendale High School junior, Victoria Meneses, tried out for the Mexican National Lacrosse Team. About thirty to forty other athletes were there, with ages ranging from fifteen to twenty years old.
Victoria remembers the intimidation she felt after seeing all of those players, many of whom had been playing this sport since they could stand on their own! Oftentimes, she felt as if the athletes surrounding her were out of her reach. However, after practicing for six days a week, Victoria’s hard work, and all her hours of practice, would lead her to a spot on the roster.
After hearing that she had actually been selected to compete on the Mexican National Lacrosse Team, Victoria was stunned, and she is still currently in shock at this incredible achievement. She said that what’s happened to her hasn’t really set in yet, but she feels a massive amount of nervousness, as flying alone to play in Hong Kong this summer will be a very exciting, yet scary, experience. Overall, she sees this as an opportunity for her to grow further into her independence.
Although Victoria doesn’t plan on going pro, she is hoping to be recognized by colleges, so that she can receive scholarships, which might lead to a college recruitment. The future is bright and exciting for Victoria, and she can’t wait for what’s next in store for her.
Good luck in Hong Kong, Victoria! We are all excited to watch you compete in August!
