Track captain John Pellegrino, and his teammates, have just started their new season representing our school. John is a junior and has been here all of his three years at Glendale High School. He was born and raised in Glendale, and he loves running, going to the gym, and watching movies.

During his sophomore year at GHS, John joined the track team and has loved it ever since. He has been enjoying his role as a leader on his team. “I love doing what I do,  and my team and I work hard to compete,” he said.

John’s team follows a workout routine that consists of running, both during and after school. “We train all week and sometimes we will run outside of school as a team on the weekends,” he said. “Our training on Saturday is usually the toughest part of the workout.” Most of the training consists of an hour or two of running, for them to build speed and stamina.

John is eager to start the 2024 track season. “We’re all prepared for our competitions and our team will be one of the best in our area,” he claimed. “The most important competitions for our track team will be the 400, 800, 1600, and 3200 meter races.”

John hopes to continue competing in track after graduation. “I’d like to be a part of a college track team wherever I end up going,” he said. He is not sure which college he will be attending in the future, but he’d like to stay local.

John’s favorite part about being on the track team is the closeness of the team, stating, “I love the fact that our team is always connected, and even though it’s a very individual sport, our team gets through everything together.”

John thinks that all of the students at GHS should join track, because “it’s about self-improvement and you have a team to support you through the way.” Currently, our track team has many lower-classmen on the team, so their future is looking bright.
