On Tuesday, November 16th, 2021, the Glendale High School boys varsity basketball team played its first home game against Chatsworth High School. Our boys fell short by 6 points, and the final score of the night was 51-57. The varsity squad was coming off a victory the day before, in their first away game against San Gabriel High School, where the final score was 61-27. Woohoo!
Throughout the night, concession stands remained open, where snacks and drinks were being sold. Nitro fans and staff members also came out to watch the game and support our players.
Before Tuesday’s game, head coach Ib Belou expressed that he was excited to see what his players were able to do in order to win. Prior to the start of the season, Mr. Belou shared that the boys “have been focusing a lot on [their] defense and offense-of-execution” skills. They have also been “playing a lot of games over the fall and the summer” to gain as much game experience as possible.
The starting line up on Tuesday included Mo Shareef (#0), Mika Petrosian (#3), Jahir Ponciano (#12), Haig Jivalagian (#21), and Hovany Nazaretian (#24). Some notable moments of the night were that the players scored a few 3-pointer shots throughout the game. They also executed rebound shots and one was made right before the 4th quarter ended.
Even though this was a tough start for our boys varsity team, there are still more games left for them to get back into the grind. “We had a lot of depth this year, but the boys have a lot of grit and tenacity,” coach Belou said. What’s important for him is that his players “take it one game at a time” and “be the hardest working team every single time.”
The boys will be playing their next home game against Crescenta Valley High School on December 3rd at 7:00pm, as they compete against one of our most dreaded school rivals. Don’t miss the game and keep on supporting our teams, Nitros!
