BLACKPINK is a four-member K-pop girl group, formed under YG Entertainment, that debuted in August 2016. They have grown to be an iconic, world-renowned group, with fans from all over the world, and the members of BLACKPINK include Jennie, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo. After a very long three-and-a-half years, the group finally released their new mini-album, Deadline, on February 27, 2026.
The first track on the album is called “뛰어 (JUMP)”, and this song was released in July of 2025, during the first concert of their “Deadline World Tour.” This is my personal favorite track on the album, because it is a very upbeat song that you will always find yourself dancing to. It’s the perfect concert song, as it hypes up the crowd and makes people jump out of their seats. The choreography to this song is also very energetic and satisfying to watch.
The second track is called “GO”, which is the title track of the album and it came out in February. There were many mixed opinions about this song when it was first released, and lots of people were quite disappointed and were expecting more from BLACKPINK after so long. This song is definitely not the best track they have released, but I, for one, think it’s unique and has a nice vibe to it. The chorus of the song is very fast and energetic, but at the same time, it all feels so empty. Other than the chorus, the other parts of the song, like the rap lyrics and the bridge, are amazing. Their vocals are also great, and the song has a nice flow.
Although the song itself isn’t the best, the music video for “GO” is on another level. There are so many visual effects and insane editing in the video, and it has left viewers starstruck. The video was directed by Rima Yoon, who is known for her creative and artistically intense work. She also directed the music videos for “ZEN” by Jennie, “Rich Man” and “Armageddon” by Aespa, and “HOT” by Seventeen.
The third track on the album is “Me and my”, and this song has a very hip-hop, groovy feel, with lots of rap. Before the album came out, this song was leaked and quickly spread. Many people criticized the group for this track, claiming they misused African American Vernacular English (AAVE). This can be found in lyrics like, “We outside every night, just me and my girls, ay.” Others have defended the artists, arguing that they are just expressing hip-hop mannerisms, and soon after the album came out, the hate died down, as people started to enjoy the song.
The next song is “Champion”, and this track is one of my favorites from the album. It’s another energetic song that feels empowering and celebrates confidence and resilience. It has an anthem feel to it with a “BLACKPINK” chant towards the end.
The last song is called “Fxxxboy”, and unlike the other tracks on the album, this one is soft and slow-paced. It’s an emotional song about problematic relationships, vulnerability and disappointment in an insincere partner. The lyrics talk about an experience with a manipulative lover and the strength it takes to move on from that. I really like how this song is so different from the others, and it’s kind of like a peaceful break from all the chaos going on.
Overall, I enjoy this album a lot, despite what others are saying about it. I definitely recommend you give this a try, and if this is your kind of music, make sure to also check out BLACKPINK’s other albums like Born Pink and The Album. And don’t miss the members’ solo albums: Ruby by Jennie, Rosie by Rosé, Alter Ego by Lisa, and Amortage by Jisoo.
