One of the most well-known video games, Mafia 2, was released on August 23, 2010. It was written by Daniel Vavra and published by 2K Games. It stars some of the best voice actors around, including Rick Pasqualone, Robert Costanza, and Sonny Marinelli.
Mafia 2 is one of the best crime and gritty drama games ever made. Those two elements help make up one of the best stories in a game ever released.
Pasqualone, Costanza, and Marinelli have all been in countless great games and movies, but this is one of the best games they have been in. Pasqualone voices Vito Scalleta, a made member of the Falcone Family; Costanza plays Joe Barbaro, a close associate of the Falcone Family and Vito’s lifelong friend; and Marinelli plays Henry Tomasino, a former member of the Clemente Family, now a Falcone member, who has left due to its destruction.
A great aspect of this game is how similar it is to 20th-century mob practices. One example of this is the mission “Enemy of the State”, where Vito has to steal gasoline ration stamps from the OPA and sell them to gas stations around the city. Another great example is the mission in Chapter 14, called “Per Aspera Ad Astra,” when Vito and Joe have to kill someone for testifying against the Salieri Family.
Another great aspect of this game is that none of the missions feel repetitive, unlike those found in its sequel, Mafia 3. This variety can be found in the two missions, “The Wild Ones” and “Room Service”. One minute you’re selling cigarettes and fighting a bunch of greaser gang members, and the next minute you’re shooting up a whole other mob family at a hotel.
The story of this game isn’t the only great thing about it, as the downloadable content that comes with the game, when you buy the definitive edition, also has a pretty good story. One example of this is the DLC titled “Joe’s Adventure”, which follows a man as he finds and chases the guy who reported Vito to the cops. You will also enjoy “Jimmy’s Betrayal” and “Jimmy’s Vendetta”, where you follow the story of a contract killer for the Clemente and Falcone families.
The small details that appear in this game are also great. For example, when you commit a crime, witnesses will go towards the nearest police officer in the area. Also, if you rob a store and return after a few in-game hours, there will be police officers taking statements from the clerk.
If you enjoy this game, go and play Mafia: Definitive Edition and the recently released Mafia: The Old Country, as they both provide more information about the characters we see and the events leading up to Mafia 2. You can buy this game now on most platforms for only a few bucks.
