One of the most well-known movies, The Shawshank Redemption, first premiered in theaters on October 14th, 1994. It was directed by Frank Darabont and written by Stephen King, and it stars Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. You can watch this movie on most streaming platforms for a few dollars.
The Shawshank Redemption is one of the best dramatic and suspenseful films of all time. These elements help make up one of the best movies in the film industry.
Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins have both acted in great movies, but this is one of the finest movies they have ever been in. Robbins plays Andy Dufrane, a man who has been sent to Shawshank Prison after being framed for the killing of his wife and her lover, and Morgan Freeman plays Ellis Redding, a man who has also been incarcerated for murder.
Although this is one of the greatest films of all time, it didn’t do very well in theaters, mainly because of the movies that it went up against that year, including Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction. It makes sense that it would flop at the box office, but everything changed once it went over to cable, where it became one of the most beloved movies in history.
A great thing about this movie is the variety of characters we see and their transformations throughout. A good example of this is Andy, who in his first few days in prison, acts like a “snob” who has to adjust to the harsh prison environment. However, by the end of the movie, Andy becomes determined to find justice for himself and the prison itself.
Another great aspect of this movie is how well they cast these characters. One great example of this is Dufrane’s assailant, Mark Rolston, who fits the role perfectly, mainly because of how he looks. Another good example of this is the prison warden, played by Bob Gunton, who is one of the best-written antagonists in any drama I have ever seen.
The ending of this movie is also terrific, because unlike most of the films and shows I have watched, where characters have to escape from somewhere, this one was different. Another reason why this ending was great is that Andy, and the other incarcerated prisoners sort of receive their justice, after what happens to the warden near the end of the movie.
You can watch this movie right now on Prime Video or Apple TV for only a few bucks. And if you enjoy this movie, I suggest you watch Forrest Gump, as it is also a drama-packed film with some comedy.
