A recent study confirms that Glendale’s reputation as one of the most dangerous cities in Los Angeles County is completely unfair. Despite being a bustling, highly populated city, Glendale regularly has a lower crime rate than many nearby areas. Glendale’s statistics on both violent crime and property crime help to explain why so many locals think it’s a safe place to live.

Glendale had 529 violent offenses in 2024, according to FBI Uniform Crime Reporting statistics collected by BeautifyData. This corresponds to a violent crime rate of roughly 287.22 per 100,000 persons. This is noticeably lower compared to the California state average, which is often much higher. 

The violent crimes recorded in Glendale last year included thirty-four rape cases, 172 robberies, 319 severe assaults, and four killings. Glendale’s totals are on the lower end when compared to other cities with similar populations, particularly in categories like homicide and severe assaults. 

Glendale’s violent crime rate is lower than both the state and national norms, according to AreaVibes, which supports the notion that major crimes are less common here than in many other places. Also, according to Dordurian Law Group, in 2022, Glendale was ranked as the fifth safest city in California.

Although property crime is more common in Glendale than violent crime, it is still very low when compared to other areas in Los Angeles County. There were 3,766 property offenses in our city in 2024, corresponding to a property crime rate of about 2,044.74 per 100,000 people. Among these, there were 2,937 cases of larceny theft, 372 cases of burglary, and 424 cases of motor vehicle theft. Although the statistics show that there is property crime in Glendale, the rate is still lower than that of many major Southern California towns, where robberies and auto theft are more common.

According to HomeSnacks, there were 4,262 violent and property crimes in Glendale during the most recent reporting period, and 2,314 crimes per 100,000 residents. Compared to many California cities, this overall crime rate is still lower. Glendale’s statistics place it in a significantly better position than neighboring Los Angeles area cities, which often have totals that rise well above 3,000 or even 4,000 crimes per 100,000 population.

These results line up with the view that Glendale residents have on the safety of their city. Approximately 92% of people polled said that they felt comfortable roaming in their own neighborhood at night, according to the city government’s 2025 Glendale community survey. Many people also reported feeling secure in Glendale’s downtown after it gets dark. 

These answers show that the daily experiences of our residents match up pretty well with our crime statistics. When the majority of a city’s residents report feeling comfortable strolling around at night, it speaks volumes about the general safety of the area.

Glendale’s excellent crime rates can be explained by a number of different reasons. Our city maintains strong public services, spotless streets, and an effective government. By making it more difficult for thieves to avoid identification, well-kept public areas and neighborhoods may prevent crime. 

Our city’s belief in safety is also significantly influenced by the low rate of violent crimes. Residents of a city naturally feel safer when there are just four murders each year, as opposed to dozens or even hundreds of them in larger cities. Additionally, the population of Glendale is very constant, which helps reduce some social pressures that occasionally promote crime in other places.

Ultimately, Glendale keeps proving why it is one of the safest places to live in LA County. Its property crime rate is still moderate rather than extreme, and its violent crime rate is much lower than the state and national averages. 

These statistics give an image of a city where people may live, study, work, and recreate with a greater sense of safety than in many other urban locations, especially when combined with high levels of resident confidence and well-kept public spaces. Glendale’s reputation as one of the safest locations in the greater Los Angeles area is supported by its consistent track record, even though no city is flawless.
