The Glendale Unified School District Board of Education has lifted its previously established mandate, requiring students and staff to wear a mask at all times on campus, even when outdoors.
“Today, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health lifted its outdoor mask requirement for schools and school settings,” said GUSD Superintendent, Dr. Vivian Ekchian, in an email message. “The Glendale Unified Board of Education has given direction that beginning tomorrow, February 16, wearing masks will be optional outdoors on all Glendale Unified campuses.”
Dr. Ekchian finished by reiterating that “masks are still required to be worn indoors at schools by both the California and Los Angeles County Departments of Public Health.”
The LA County outdoor mask mandate had been in place since the beginning of the second semester on January 10, as a response to the rise of the omicron variant of covid-19.
