The Summer I Turned Pretty is a show that is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video. This show is based on the novel trilogy by Jenny Han. Lola Tung stars as Isabel “Belly” Conklin, who is in a love triangle with the Fisher brothers. Conrad, the older brother, is played by Christopher Briney, and Gavin Casalegno plays Jeremiah.
The first season of this series premiered in 2022, and it was met with a huge fanbase. The final season received great hype, and dedicated watchers were anxiously waiting every Wednesday to watch the next episode.
In The Summer I Turned Pretty, Belly Conklin spends her summers at Cousins Beach with the Fisher family, where she is caught in a love triangle with Conrad and Jeremiah. In Season 1, Belly turns sixteen and experiences her first romance and learns about Susannah’s illness, and her feelings for Conrad increase.
Season 2 then shows the heartbreak the family feels after Susannah’s death, and family tensions grow. Then, in the final season, Belly is once again torn between the two brothers, and she finally learns what real love and maturity mean.
Belly eventually leaves for Paris after canceling her wedding with Jeremiah. In the last episode, she really grows up and matures by listening to her heart and not overthinking. Conrad and Belly find their way back to each other, proving that despite all of the heartbreak, they are meant to be together. Yet, I truly feel that Conrad would have been better off without her.
Belly is a very self-centered character, since she does not consider how she is hurting both brothers. Jeremiah is insecure, and he just wants to have something that his brother really wants for himself, which is Belly. Jeremiah really feels overshadowed by his brother, and that leads him to think that Belly likes Conrad more (which she does). The truth is that Belly should have left Conrad alone from the beginning, especially if she knew that she wasn’t mature enough or really sure about her feelings.
I am super excited because Jenny Han has announced that a movie based on this series will be coming soon. I hope it focuses more on Conrad and Belly’s relationship and the healing of the two brothers. This show is super addictive, so you should definitely watch it if you want something to spice up your day!
