This year, Glendale High School is happy to welcome Ms. Sally Myles, one of our newest teachers. Even though this is her first year teaching at GHS, she has been part of the Glendale Unified community for a while.
Before coming here, Ms. Myles worked as a district teacher specialist, helping new teachers and working in the Teaching and Learning Department. Now, she is excited to finally be in the classroom, teaching her own students and learning from them, too.
Ms. Myles has wanted to be a teacher since she was a kid. She laughed when she remembered how she used to teach her stuffed animals when she was just eight years old. She said that the best part of teaching is getting to learn with and from her students. To her, teaching isn’t just about giving lessons; it’s about growing together and seeing new ideas.
Ms. Myles’s favorite part about working at GHS is her students. They make every day fun and full of energy. Her favorite subject to teach is English, because she loves reading and writing.
Before coming to GHS, Ms. Myles worked at Rosemont Middle School, where she taught a class called “Building Intercultural Bridges”. It helped students learn about different cultures and how to understand each other better, which she really enjoyed teaching.
When she was a student herself, Ms. Myles was mostly an “A and B student”, but she says that geometry was really difficult for her. Her experience should hopefully remind her students that it’s okay to struggle; that just means that you’re learning. One of the most important things Ms. Myles has learned from her students is that there’s always another way to look at things, and that teamwork can make a big difference.
When she’s not teaching, Ms. Myles likes to travel, read mystery books and spend time with her family. She said that the amazing teachers at GHS inspire her every day to keep doing what she loves. With her kind personality, creativity, and love for learning, Ms. Myles has already become a great part of the GHS family!
