“Sweater Weather” is a song that almost everyone has heard at least once.
It’s one of those tracks that is instantly recognizable the moment it starts playing. The Neighbourhood released this song in early 2013, and it has now amassed over four billion streams on Spotify.
The members of The Neighbourhood started their career in August 2011, and their music involved both the alternative rock and dark pop genres. The band consists of five friends, led by vocalist Jesse Rutherford, along with guitarists Jeremy Freedman and Zach Abels, bassist Mikey Margott and drummer Brandon Fried.

When the band first appeared on the internet in 2012, no one knew anything about them. There was no background, no title, nothing, and they just had a song called “Female Robbery”. They eventually gained immediate attention with the release of their second song, “Sweater Weather”, and I’m Sorry…, their first EP.
I personally discovered this band in 2017 through their song “The Beach”, and I instantly fell in love with their sound. I had never heard anything like them before. After searching for the artists’ names, I found more of their songs, and I still listen to them to this day.
With a loyal fanbase supporting them and eagerly awaited new projects, the band shocked everyone on February 22, 2022, when they announced their retirement. They stated on social media that they would be taking an indefinite break for the sake of their mental health.

After this announcement, fans were left hoping for a reunion. Fortunately in August 2025, The Neighbourhood revealed that they’d been working on new music since 2024, thanking fans for their support and teasing a fresh start.
They also organized a pop-up event for fans in Los Feliz called Flea Market that lasted a couple of days. I attended this event, and it was amazing. The band handed out free merchandise, played unreleased songs and fans, including myself, took photo booth pictures framed with their logo.
The Neighbourhood’s return shows that even after years apart, the connection between these artists and their fans remains strong. With new music on the horizon and events that bring fans together, it feels like the band is ready to start a fresh chapter—one that promises to keep their signature sound alive, while also creating new memories for everyone who has supported them along the way.
