Yeraz Kassabian is ready to achieve her goals by doing good things!
Yeraz is a senior member of our GHS girls varsity soccer team, and she was born and raised in Glendale. She enjoys drawing, reading, and crocheting, and she is great at making mittens, scarves, and blankets.
Yeraz is humble and shy, but she can be outspoken at times. She is also funny and even makes herself laugh a lot. For the second year in a row, she is the president of the Dynamiter Do-Gooders Club on our campus.
Yeraz founded the Dynamiter Do-Gooders Club last year, when she was a junior. She decided to create her own club because she wanted to be the one in charge of helping her schoolmates earn their community service hours.
Yeraz thought that creating a club of her own was also super cool. “Yeah, I made a club,” she said. She wanted her club members, AKA the “Do-Gooders”, to make new friends while being involved in community service opportunities.
These opportunities are provided by Yeraz and are done off campus or during school events. Last semester, club members went to Verdugo Park and collected trash around the facilities.
For Yeraz, having fun is just as important as the work you accomplish. When the Los Angeles fires occurred in January, the Do-Gooders made posters for the teachers who were affected by the fires. As a club, they also donated some of their funds to those who were displaced.
Yeraz feels that she could have completed more activities during the last school year, but unfortunately, she was not able to do so. Although there may be some overwhelming times, she has stood strong and has continued to be an inspiration to others as a president. One of her favorite parts about being the president of a club is that she is in charge. She likes to be the boss, and who doesn’t? “[It brings out] the older-sister in me,” she claimed.
Why should students join the Dynamiter Do-Gooders Club? “They’re gonna do good stuff [and] get volunteer hours,” Yeraz said. “They’re going to feel good about doing good!”
GHS students will also meet many new people and make friends along the way! “Everyone is very kind,” Yeraz declared. “They’re all Do-Gooders.”
The Do-Gooders Club is special because “all the people in it are special,” according to Yeraz. She is grateful for all of her cabinet members, and they are all so important to her. “They’re all just very good people,” she said.
This is Yeraz’s final year at GHS, and her goal is to organize at least five volunteer events happening around the City of Glendale and on campus. She has learned from her experiences and will do better than she has done in the past. But most importantly, she wants her members to have fun!
Yeraz knows how to lead with passion, and she also hopes that whoever is the next president of the Dynamiter Do-Gooders Club will be very hard-working and determined to get stuff done. Possibly her younger sister (and former Explosion staff writer), Meghri Kassabian, will step into this role.
After graduating from high school, Yeraz sees herself going to a four-year university. “I want to major in something that I enjoy,” she said. “And I’m happy where I am.” Her ability to lead has guided her to become a better person, and although the community she has created is small, they are always having fun. No matter what, she will forever be a Do-Gooder!
