Emil Sarkisians is a senior goalkeeper on our Glendale High School boys varsity soccer team. He and his teammates recently competed in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 Championships, and they finished in the quarterfinal round.
Emil joined our GHS soccer team in 2020, during his freshman year. He was born in Tehran, Iran and fell in love with soccer at the age of ten, inspired by his grandfather and cousin. When he’s not playing soccer, Emil also loves spending time with his family and friends.
What made you choose to become a soccer player at GHS?
Well, I’ve always loved being a goalkeeper, especially because I like being the one to save the team. I wanted to play at a higher level at the time, and this team was a big jump for me.
How have you been able to balance both sports and school?
It’s not always easy to do, of course, but our coaches…provide their own time for us and help us out to balance all of our work.
Do you plan on continuing soccer outside of high school?
I plan on playing soccer outside of high school for sure!
What advice can you give to younger players who want to join the soccer team or incoming soccer players that want to play for our school?
Be ready to set aside all of the things [that don’t matter]. This team’s biggest pro is the dedication the coaches are willing to make, and that should make you want it even more.
Our boys varsity soccer team is hoping to continue its tradition of success next season. And they will need new players next season to fill in for Emil and his senior classmates.

Keep kicking it, Nitros!
