Taylor Swift is the biggest pop star of our time.
She is an icon. She is a legend. She has sold out concerts. She is everything. She is the moment.
We all know her name, and we’re all familiar with her music. She’s basically the Hannah Montana of our generation!
But that’s not just my opinion.
Taylor Swift fans, who call themselves Swifties, seem to love and adore her, and so do I. But many people still don’t like her, or they seem to find her annoying. “She’s the girl that only writes about her ex- boyfriends,” they say.
“She dates men too soon!”
“She’s been with so many men!”
“She’s a bad person!”
That’s a lot of negative opinions to go through, but it’s just a lot of unnecessary noise. Everyone loves to tear people down when they are living their best life. This is the cost of having an all-time career at its absolute peak.
Taylor Swift’s career started with her debut studio album, Taylor Swift, in 2006. This was a hit, and she became known as a country star.
Swift released her second studio album, Red, and her country status continued until 2014, when she released her pop album masterpiece, 1989. This was her first step into the genre of pop music instead of country.
1989 is super popular, and it includes hit songs like “Shake It Off”, “Blank Space” and “Bad Blood”. This is when Swift started to receive backlash from haters, and multiple controversies began to come up.
These issues go all the way back to 2009 at the MTV Video Music Awards, where Kanye West interrupted her when she was accepting the award for Best Video by a Female Artist for her hit song “You Belong with Me”. In the now infamous clip, West grabbed the microphone from her hand and announced that Beyonce’s video for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” should’ve won instead.
Due to all these controversies and backlash, in 2017, Swift released her fourth album Reputation, which includes several popular songs like “Look What You Made Me Do” and “Are You Ready for It?” In 2019, Swift released another album called Lover. This was another popular album, and it was written about her current ex, Joe Alwyn.
In 2020, she released her next album, Folklore. This was a very successful and popular album and one of my personal favorites. Later that same year, she released another album called Evermore, which I’m also very fond of.
Her next album was released in 2022, and it was titled Midnights. The release of this album started to rise to Swift’s current popularity, which has culminated in her most recent release, The Tortured Poets Department.
In March of 2023, Taylor Swift began her Eras Tour, which took a trip down memory lane, where she sang a few songs from each of her albums. Her tour was the most successful tour of all time, and the venues sold out instantly.
Taylor Swift continues to pursue her dreams, and she held the status as the most popular singer on earth, up until late 2023. A lot of trend hoppers start to hate on her, and bring up her past controversies, in an attempt to cancel her. Many brought up the fact that she’s dated many men, and during Super Bowl LVIII, many fans were upset that she was there to cheer on her current boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
Cancel culture has taken over and many have turned on Taylor Swift, but this hasn’t brought her down! Swifties still continue to thrive and support her (including myself), as we await Reputation (Taylor’s Version) and cheer on her new album The Tortured Poets Department!
