Drake’s most recent album, For All the Dogs, was produced by Noel Cadastre and by Drake, himself. The album was released on October 6, 2023, and it has twenty-three tracks that all feature big artists. You can find this album now on Spotify and Apple Music.
Overall, this album is a nice way to express feelings, with a nice flow. Drake, a Canadian Rapper who is known for his R&B and hip hop music, began his career in 2006, and an unforgettable artist was born. Drake has described For All the Dogs as a “trilogy” of his past three albums, including Certified Lover Boy, Honestly, Nevermind, and Her Loss.
“Virginia Beach” is a great opening, and it’s one of the album’s best tracks. This song shocked Drake’s fans when they first heard the samples of an unreleased song, featuring the one and only, Frank Ocean. This song has calm beats and lyrics with deep meaning. I would recommend this song for late chills when in your feels.
“Slime You Out” (feat. SZA) is the lead single off the album, debuting at number-one on the US Billboard Hot 100. Drake’s lyrics mix well with SZA’s vocals, and this collaboration is not a miss. My personal favorite part of this song is the ending, when Drake states a lyrical line for each month of the year.
“IDGAF” (feat. Yeat) is another highlight. Many have argued that this track is more of a Yeat song featuring Drake, rather than the other way around. This is because Yeat plays the bigger role in the song, and he goes all out with the beats and the lyrics, while Drake contributes a much shorter verse. Yet, this song is truly great.
“8am in Charlotte” is the second single, and it has a music video featuring Drake’s son, Adonis, who also created the artwork for the album’s cover. This is definitely one of my favorites on the album, because of the way Drake speaks about his success in life. I also enjoy the beats in the song.
Ultimately, “Polar Opposites” is a perfect song to finish off the album, and it is my personal favorite track. This song is truly underrated and should definitely receive more attention. I like the flow on this track, and it’s the perfect song to play when you’re doing independent work.
Overall, For All the Dogs, is a serviceable Drake album. I wouldn’t say that it’s one of his top albums, but I really enjoy listening to it. I definitely recommend that you check out this album and have a listen for yourself.
And if you enjoy listening to Drake, make sure to check out Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Kanye West, and Future, for similarly exceptional rap music.
