Andre Hiwatig Misses Dominating the Courts

Andre Hiwatig Misses Dominating the Courts

Despite going to Clark Magnet High School, Andre Hiwatig is a spirited Nitro on the volleyball courts. As a senior, Andre has been on the boys volleyball team for 4 years, with 3 of them on varsity. Andre dominates the courts and hopes to get back to his team as soon as possible.

In past school years, Andre’s positions in volleyball have been as an outside hitter or defensive specialist. Volleyball season would normally be set in the springtime, but with distanced learning and the need for modifications, it has been moved to the winter season.

Despite his season being cut short due to COVID-19, Andre has spent his time at home effectively. He has used his free time for self-reflection, as well as to exercise, because he felt “it would help if [they] have a season this year.”

Even though Andre has a positive outlook, he still misses practice. He finds that he “took it for granted” during the traditional school year. He makes sure to keep in contact with his teammates to check on their wellbeing, as well as their workouts.

Andre hopes that school opens up again, even if it does not look the same. He wants to see his friends and classmates again, because the people at school are “all that matter to” him. As a Clark student, Andre misses coming to GHS after school and going to practice.

After high school, Andre hopes to get into his dream school of Columbia University. He hopes to move to the East Coast to study to become a teacher or another position in the education field. Andre has big plans for the future, and as a Clarkie, he represents the very best of both schools.
