The movie Marty Supreme, released on December 25th, 2025, is a film inspired by real life table tennis champion Marty Reisman. When I first watched it, I didn’t really know what to expect, because it’s about ping pong and that doesn’t sound very exciting at first. But the movie actually surprised me a lot. It follows a young player trying to make a name for himself, while also dealing with stuff in his life that makes it all harder.
The movie stars Timothée Chalamet as Marty Mauser, Odessa A’zion as Rachel Mizler, and Gwyneth Paltrow as Kay Stone. I feel like all these actors do a pretty good job bringing the story to life.
One thing I noticed a lot in the movie is how much it focuses on the idea of not giving up. Marty starts off as someone nobody really believes in, and you can tell he gets frustrated a lot.
There are scenes where he loses a table tennis match, and you can kinda feel how upset he is, like it makes you feel bad for him. But at the same time, he keeps trying again and again, even when it seems like nothing is working.
It reminded me of real life, because sometimes things don’t go your way, but you still have to keep going. I liked how the movie doesn’t make Marty a perfect person, and he messes up and makes bad choices, too, which makes him feel more real.
Another great aspect are the relationships in the movie. Rachel is someone who supports Marty, but she also doesn’t always agree with him, which leads to arguments. It feels real, because not every relationship is picture-perfect and it seems more natural.
Kay Stone is more strict and serious, and she pushes Marty really hard, sometimes too hard. At some points I wasn’t sure if she was helping him or just putting more pressure on him. These people around him really affect how he grows, and you can see how he changes over time because of them.
The acting in the movie is also really terrific. Timothée Chalamet makes Marty feel like a real person, not just some character. You can see his emotions, like when he is angry, confused or even proud of himself.
The table tennis scenes were actually really intense, and the way they are filmed makes each moment seem fast and stressful, like every point matters so much. There are some parts in the movie where it feels a little slow, and I got kinda bored for a bit, but then it will pick back up again. So this film isn’t perfect, but it still kept me watching.
Something else I thought about while watching is how the movie shows the pressure we place on ourselves. Marty is always trying to prove himself, not just to others but also to himself. That kind of pressure can be really hard, and you can see how it starts to affect him more and more. There are moments where he doubts himself, and it almost feels like he might give up.
I think this is something a lot of people can relate to, especially students or athletes. It makes the movie feel more personal, like it’s not just about sports but about life, too.
Overall, I actually enjoyed Marty Supreme more than I thought I would. At first I didn’t think a movie about ping pong would be that interesting, but it ended up being about way more than that. It’s about working hard, dealing with failure and growing as a person.
Even though it has some slow parts and small problems, it still gives a strong message. I think it’s a good movie to watch if you ever feel like giving up, because it reminds you to keep going, even when things don’t go as planned.
So I highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes fast-paced action or suspense. The film is available to watch now on HBO Max, Prime Video, or YouTube TV.
