Besides founding one of the most successful clubs at Glendale High School, Rakib Morshed is a senior who spends his free time enjoying music and engaging in as many sports as possible to stay fit. He may be busy, but he always finds time to move towards his goal of creating a business. Rakib is the founder and president of the Impact Club and works to motivate others to achieve success.
Rakib created the Impact Club during his junior year, where he took on a huge responsibility as president, working to lift the club onto its feet. He and his cabinet members have spent long hours coordinating donations, volunteering opportunities and fundraising events, eventually getting the club to be a success.
In the days before the club’s creation, there was an issue regarding the number of people who wanted to pursue entrepreneurship. As Rakib put it, there was an “untapped potential in the student base.” Inspired by his own knowledge of business and an urge to give back, he felt that a well-run business club could unlock a lot of opportunities for students on our campus.
The purpose of Impact Club has been to encourage students to pursue their own business ventures by providing them with experiences. During club meetings, members can expect to discuss the club’s next fundraising event, and they are encouraged to pitch their own ideas for future events regarding community service and raising money.
Ideas pitched during club meetings have a real chance of coming to fruition. The club acts as a supportive environment where everybody, even the president, participates and learns from one another.
The club is registered as a non-profit, often working alongside others such as the LA Food Bank and Ascencia, by donating funds and providing materials. Members are later compensated largely in community service hours, and they receive statistics on how they’re performing. Rakib says that his club is always “striving to make a bigger impact every day” to help the overall Glendale community.
Students are also provided with incentives to join. Many members have accumulated over forty community service hours, while also gaining real-world experience from their time with other well-known non-profits. Rakib also mentioned that “the club provides connections to various places around the city, as many of the faculty know us, and often work with us, in turn we actively help those in need.”
Needless to say, Impact Club has already left its mark on GHS. This year alone, becoming an official non-profit has put them a step further and made them directly involved with other well-known organizations. In the matter of three months, the club has raised and donated over $1,000 in donations, providing thousands of meals to those in need. Rakib and his members have overachieved their goals from the start of the year in creating opportunities for the community.
After graduation, Rakib hopes “the club can keep the organizations together and continue serving the community in impactful ways.” Students can follow the Impact Club on Instagram: @ImpactClubGHS, and they can join by contacting Mrs. Keefer regarding the club’s Remind.
