Jazmin Combs is a senior at Glendale High School, and she has been a four-year player on our Nitro softball team. She was born in Burbank, and she started playing softball at the Foothill Little League at the age of six.
Jazmin is on her way to graduation this year, but when she has free time, after all the hard work that she puts in during the school day, she loves watching her favorite baseball team, the Dodgers. She also enjoys doing her friends’ nails and makeup.
Who inspired you to start playing softball?
My mom and dad inspired me to play softball. They both played in high school and I thought it was pretty cool. My mom also played in college.
What challenges do you face on the softball field?
A challenge I face is keeping myself in the right mindset. Sometimes during a game, or even at practice, I find myself thinking that I’m not good enough or I’ll never improve.
What is your favorite part about being a member of this team?
My favorite part about this program is having a team that has your back, a group of girls [who] enjoy playing softball and…that are ready to put in hard work. I love them all as if they were my sisters.
How does it feel to handle school and sports at the same time?
Handling school and softball is pretty easy most of the time, I guess. When I do get homework or a project for a class, I always make sure I have time to do it after practice, or I do it during my TA period.
How will this team benefit other GHS students?
Students should join softball, because it prepares them for the real world, and you make friendships that could last a lifetime. The team and coaches are amazing, and they always want you at your best, and they are like family.
What goals do you have for your team this year?
My goals for the team this year is to lead them to the playoffs and for all seniors to enjoy playing their last season.
What do you think will happen in the future after you graduate?
After I graduate, I hope the softball program will continue to grow, become more competitive, and compete with better teams, like Arcadia and Burbank.
Where do you see yourself in the future after you leave GHS?
In the future, I see myself going to college in Bakersfield, becoming a nurse, and maybe playing softball.
