She has found a new passion for herself being a part of this class, where she can express her own voice to the public. During her sophomore and junior year, she was the treasurer of the Art Club, and now she is the vice-president of the Pre-Law Club and the Director of Nitro Crew for ASB. This is her first year in ASB, and she is so happy she joined this class. Even though it’s almost three months, she feels involved with so many activities during and outside of school. She wants to do her best to make the best effort, especially in her senior year. At the beginning of her senior year, she created an Instagram reel account called Mic It Up. She is a sideline reporter for our school sports team, and she loves interviewing new players and challenging herself every week. She highly recommends everyone to follow and watch the videos; who knows, maybe one day you will get interviewed by her. Erica also volunteers monthly at her old elementary school, R.D. White, where she visits her old teachers and helps out the students. She mainly focuses on assisting students with ELD, and she translates for them and guides them through the lessons they are being taught. During her spare time, she loves to go on long walks around her area. It’s her way to feel free and have an empty mindset. Other than walking, she loves reading, listening to music, and even crocheting. Erica’s plan after high school is to directly go to a four-year university. Her dream school is USC, and she hopes to major in sports broadcasting journalism. But she isn’t putting all her eggs in one basket, and she plans on applying to UCSD, Northwestern University and Pepperdine. She always admired watching reporters as a little girl, hoping to be one someday, and she is determined to make her dream come true.
Ellen Kalantaryan, Senior
Ellen has been on the color guard team for two seasons, and she joined in the second semester of her junior year. She never saw herself getting the push to join guard, but she did one day because of a dear friend. She hopes to pursue color guard as a sport after high school. In her free time, she studies music and practices guitar and piano. Ellen also spends many hours of her week at the gym, pulling and pushing weights and working out with her friends. During her junior year, she worked undercover as our school mascot, Dyno, and she only revealed her true identity at the end of the year. That same year, she became the president of Gardening Club, and continues to have that role this school year. Ellen has also joined ASB as the Director of Multimedia and Social Media. She hopes that her passion for guard will continue to live on and that she will be able to march on fields or perform as a finalist of WGI. Ellen plans to study in animal sciences in the future, by first going to Glendale Community College, and she then hopes to study at the University of Vermont. She hopes to pursue a career in avian veterinary, because she loves birds very much and already knows a lot about them, from having one as a pet.

To many it’s a heroic choice of career to take on; but that isn’t how she sees it. For Macey, it’s a tiny way of restoring safety in the cruel and scary world we live in. Every criminal caught gives our world a little sense of safety.
