I will admit that it’s fun to be curious about the status of your favorite celebrity, but sometimes it gets a little unhealthy and concerning. We spend so much time worrying about others who have their own responsibilities and real lives to deal with. Actors, singers, influencers and other media stars have private lives to maintain and a public image to uphold. So, why do we continue to invade their privacy?
Let’s be real – every time a celebrity does anything remotely human, the internet goes wild. From moments during interviews to casual Instagram stories, obsessive fans around the world jump at the chance to nitpick tiny details that end up affecting a celebrity’s reputation. Unfortunately, false information spreads like wildfire thanks to social media, creating an unstoppable flood of hateful comments and unnecessary shaming.
A common occurrence of this obsessive behavior is when stars are hated for their relationships. This is most likely due to jealousy and a hunger for attention. Having a crush on a celebrity plays a huge role in fueling this envious nature, resulting in some fans being completely out of touch with reality.
Take Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner as an example. This couple was rumored to have started dating in April of 2023, and they have been seen at multiple events ever since, such as the Beyoncé concert that same year. This made their relationship more public.
The couple has also been spotted at more recent events, such as the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards. I think it’s safe to say that they’re happily enjoying each other’s company, right? Well, guess what: fans think otherwise.
Many people have started degrading Jenner, calling her too “emotionally unintelligent” for a person like Chalamet. This sentiment likely stems from his roles in films with deeper meanings and the overall perception of his public persona. People wonder what topics these two young stars could possibly be discussing throughout their day-to-day lives. People have even gone so low as to label Jenner as a boring woman with no personality.
Others still view Chalamet as a young teenager and state that Jenner looks like his mother, even though they’re the same age. Fans of Jenner have also body-shamed Chalamet in many instances, calling him too skinny, especially compared to her former relationship with rapper Travis Scott. I assure you that both of these grown adults have moved way past that.
All of these speculations about them have probably affected both of their connections to their fans. Their appearances together should be enough to show their love for one another, and they aren’t the only example of something like this happening. Celebrities will always be criticized for every action they make, every person they date and every breath they take.
We shouldn’t be making assumptions about the private lives of other people, because we will never know what is happening behind the scenes. It’s important to understand the difference between showing support for a celebrity and being creepy about their life. Fame doesn’t cancel out the right to basic human respect.
