The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom that has been around since 1989, and it is currently in its thirty-sixth season. At the show’s beginning, everything looked normal, with all its funny and iconic moments.
But if you take a closer look, you can see that The Simpsons is not only a fun show to watch, but it’s also a show where the episodes have come to life. How? By predicting many things that have eventually occurred in real life.
The writers of this series have made many predictions throughout the years, but many people only bring them up online when they eventually come to pass. One such event happened in 1995, in an episode that aired during the sixth season, titled “Lisa’s Wedding”.
This episode predicts what will happen to Lisa Simpson in the future, and at one point she goes on a trip to London, where she meets a university student named Hugh Parkfield. At one point in that episode, a rapid shot shows a big, pointy tower. Many people recognize that building these days as The Shard, but it was not constructed until 2009, which was fourteen years after that episode originally aired.

Another episode actually predicted the Covid-19 pandemic that occurred from 2020 to 2021. This episode, titled “Marge in Chains”, first aired in 1993, and it first focuses on Marge shoplifting and going to serve time in prison.
Meanwhile, in Springfield, there is a virus called the Osaka Flu, which infects the town after some shipments arrive from Japan. Even though this sickness doesn’t come from China, the treatment is not found by the end of the episode and doctors tell them townspeople to simply take some bed rest. This situation is comparable to what scientists were saying when they were developing the Covid-19 vaccine.

Some people also claim that The Simpsons predicted the recent fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. An episode called “The Homer They Fall” aired in 1996, and it focused on Homer having a career as a boxer. He eventually beats everyone with Moe as his coach, and his strategy is to just stand still and let the other boxers punch him until they tire out.
Eventually, the biggest fighter in the world, Drederick Tatum, decides to fight against Homer. Tatum is a clear stand-in for Mike Tyson, who was considered the greatest heavyweight boxer at the time.
Even though Homer loses the fight to Tatum, many people say that this episode predicted the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. The writers seem to have anticipated that an amateur fighter would eventually take on one of the greatest fighters in history, even though Paul ended up defeating Tyson.

An alternative prediction that didn’t quite come true was the recent Presidential Election, in which Kamala Harris and Donald Trump were the main candidates. In an episode of The Simpsons that aired in 2000, titled “Bart to the Future”, we see a vision of Bart’s life as an adult, when Lisa becomes the first woman to be elected President of the United States.
Harris also wore a very similar outfit to what Lisa is wearing in that episode, and even though Harris didn’t win the election in 2024, fans have theorized that she was supposed to win against someone else.
Overall, The Simpsons is a sitcom that will forever be known by everyone, whether they have watched the series or not. It will keep surprising the internet until the final episode has aired, and there is no way to prevent these predictions from happening. We just have to live with the future that the show has given us.
