Brina Brati is a senior at Glendale High School. She is president of the Mental Health Awareness Club and a member of our girl’s varsity water polo team. One of her interests is art, such as drawing and painting. She also loves activities like swimming in the ocean and hiking. She is very involved on our campus, and she is a member of the GHS swim team, ASB, Nitro Crew, and Armenian Club.
Brina was motivated to join the Mental Health Awareness Club because when she was a freshman, her captain from the water polo team was the president and her sister was also a member. Being the president of this club has helped Brina personally because it helps her to speak more confidently on big platforms. It has also caused her to be organized when she usually speaks in public.
Every club meeting is different. Some days they have guest speakers, and the first guest speaker of the year was Ms. Postajian. She told members about her experiences when she was a student at GHS, and how she manages her mental health. Also, there will be days when they are just chilling at lunchtime. It’s overall a more relaxed meeting environment.
Brina believes that there are many mental health issues facing teenagers today. A lot of people don’t feel comfortable speaking with their parents to get the help they need, and this can affect all of the other aspects of their lives. Brina hopes that her club may help students to manage their mental health, by creating a safe and positive community.
