Eva Jeyranyan is a 16-year-old junior at Glendale High School. She is the current president of the Class of 2026, and she was born and raised in Glendale. Her hobbies include playing the cello, being on the girl’s water polo team, playing with her cat, Mimi, and doing too much homework.
Eva is currently a part of many clubs on campus, like Letters for Rose, and she is the president of two clubs: Make-A-Wish and Project: Warm. She is a leader in our school’s symphonic orchestra and was the first sophomore in her class to be part of the National Honor Society. She’s been the president of the Class of 2026 since her freshman year, and she wants to continue making her way up the ladder of leadership in ASB.
Why did you become the Class of 2026 president?
In my freshman year, I never really thought about becoming president, but my cousin told me about it because she used to go to GHS. She told me it was such a fun experience to be a commissioner and to be a part of ASB. So I decided, you know what? The election’s coming up [so] let’s run for president! I ran unopposed my freshman year, and ever since then, I’ve been continuing it.
What’s your ultimate goal while being president?
Well, my goal is to [become] ASB president next year, but that’s a personal goal for myself. My main goal is to have fun activities at school, make a change, vote on so many different things, and decide on stuff like Prom, Homecoming, and [many] other events. I think it’s so cool to be part of [this] and get to decide what happens on campus.
Tell me about your class council cabinet.
The cabinet has mainly been the same since my freshman year. There have been some changes in positions, and some changes in people. But we have the same general group, and they’re all my friends. So it’s been a really good experience with the cabinet because I think that we’re all so close. And I’m happy that [this] is something that the Class of 2026 has.
How long have you played the cello, and why did you choose that instrument?
I’ve been playing the cello since the sixth grade. I knew I always wanted to do music in middle school, high school, and continuing. And in fourth and fifth [grade] I played viola in my school’s orchestra. We would meet every single Tuesday and Thursday and play at my elementary school.
What elementary school was it?
At Horace Mann Elementary School. So [that] is where it all started, but then I just continued it. Then I really enjoyed Mr. Fox’s sixth-grade orchestra class at Roosevelt Middle School, which many were forced to take, but I just stuck with it. And I chose the cello because I felt like there was some type of exclusivity to it. There were only six cellos that could play it, and I got to be one of them.
Please talk about your involvement in other clubs on campus.
I’m president of the Class of 2026, and I’m also the [new] president of Make-A-Wish this year, which I’m very excited about because it’s one of those really big national organizations. So I want to make a difference with that. I have a lot of ideas in mind, and if you guys wanna hear the ideas, you should join our club.
I’m also the president and the founder of a club [named] Project: Warm. I found it at the beginning of my sophomore year, with my club advisor Ms. [Sona] Postajian. [This] club advocates for people in need, such as homeless people. So we provided them with warm clothes and advocated for not wasting clothes. If there’s something that you don’t like anymore, either you can upcycle it or donate it and not dump it. That’s our main goal.
What advice do you have for the underclassmen at GHS?
I think every single person should [be] in a club and should try and find their spot on campus because it doesn’t necessarily have to be for college or for a bigger reason of what you want to do in the future. Just join a club and find your space. High school is going to be more of a fun experience if you have people who are going through the same thing as you. That’s the biggest thing. Don’t wait until your junior year or senior year when college apps start coming around. Start early. Start during your freshman year.
Eva encourages you all to be part of a club and get more involved at school. She would love for you guys to join her clubs as well. If you are interested in joining Make-A-Wish, join their Remind: @wishghs24. Also if you’re interested in joining Project: Warm, that Remind code is @staywarm.
Junior class council meetings are held every Tuesday at lunch in Ms. Bedrousi’s Room 7204. All juniors are welcome to attend!
