This is the most iconic tribute to girlhood in film history.
Legally Blonde was directed by Robert Luketic, and written by Amanda Brown, Karen McCullah and Kirsten Smith. The movie stars Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods, a fashionable sorority queen who decides to pursue a career in law after being dumped by her boyfriend.
Released in theaters on July 13, 2001, this movie is streaming now on Max and you can rent it now on Prime Video. This movie is a perfect example of the popular dumb-blonde stereotype. It is a comedy as well as a romance, and it gives a humorous, lighthearted, yet motivational approach to its story.
The stylish sorority queen, Elle Woods, has everything she could ever want and more. But her biggest desire is to be Mrs. Warner Huntington III. However, it seems that proposing is the last thing on her boyfriend’s mind, and the reason behind that is because he thinks that she is too blonde for him. Determined to win him back, Elle follows him all the way to law school, only to discover that there is more to her than just her blonde hair.
For the younger adolescent female audience members, who are just beginning to make more significant life decisions, I believe this film can be really encouraging for them. The fact that Elle seizes upon an opportunity, and works hard at it, is one of the film’s most positive and inspirational elements.
Elle transforms into the best version of herself and learns how to live without “the guy of her dreams.” She intentionally seeks her own self-worth by devoting time and attention to becoming the woman she wants to be. Then, she makes friends who don’t ask her to change herself to please them; instead, they embrace her for who she is.
The real work is one of the hardest aspects of pursuing your ambition. Elle hangs out with Paulete, her new best friend, and then she studies. She works out and studies. While everyone else is off having fun, she studies. Because no one else seems to be putting in as much work, time, or effort as Elle does, she makes sacrifices and begins to outperform her colleagues.
The movie’s narrative is quite simple and straightforward, with little to no complexity. However, as the film goes on, more characters are introduced to add to the intrigue. This results in some interesting storyline twists and turns. This film is a rejection of the “dumb blonde” stereotype, so if you enjoy the idea of the main character proving everyone else in a movie wrong, then this film is a must.
Reese Witherspoon stars in many romance movies, and that’s why she does so well in her movie role. Based on her looks, she suits her character in every way possible, and the personality that she portrays in the movie really seems to suit her features. The acting and facial expressions really fit into the identity of Elle Woods, and I don’t think that anyone else would be more perfect for this role.
During the movie, it seems as though Witherspoon really is Elle Woods as she really dives deeply into her role. Even though the character initially strikes us as a stereotypical, popular, mean girl, as we get to know her better, we are able to recognize that there is a kindness and intelligence underneath it all.
This movie is also great for a teenage, female audience, and it will inspire young girls, while also making them laugh. Given how many traits Elle possesses that are typical of modern women, there’s a good chance that many females will identify with her in some manner.
If you’re struggling to achieve your goals, to find love, or to build relationships with other students in the education environment, this silly movie may inspire you tremendously. Therefore, I heartily advise you to watch this film to see how you personally feel about it.
So definitely check out Legally Blonde, especially if you’re looking for romance, as well as a good laugh. And if you enjoy Legally Blonde, I definitely recommend that you also give Mean Girls a try!
