Breanna Lee was born in Glendale and attended Wilson Middle School before coming to Glendale High School as a part of the Class of 2027. She was a member of her ASB during both seventh and eighth grade, and last year she was the ASB President. In September, she was also elected as president of her freshman class.
One of the things that Breanna likes to do outside of school is play the piano, and she has been playing for six years. She also enjoys going to the library and reading books.
Breanna says that she became Freshman Class President because she had such a good time being in student government as an eighth grader. “Getting to be a representative and a role model to the other ASB members, and getting everyone to have…school spirit, is really fun,” she said. ”And [that] made me want to do it at GHS.”
Breanna has a lot of plans for the GHS freshman class. “I want to get the freshmen more involved because everyone knows the freshmen aren’t really looked at,” she admitted. “So my plan is to hype them up because being a freshman doesn’t mean you can’t have school spirit.”
Breanna really enjoys being the Freshman Class President, and she likes hanging out with her class council members, planning fundraisers, and brainstorming ideas to get other freshmen involved. Some of the responsibilities that come with being a president include “being a leader for my cabinet members, directing all the meetings, [and] making sure everything gets done by the time it needs to be, which also takes time outside of school.”
For Breanna, one of the challenges that comes with being a class president is “getting people to listen outside of ASB.” She believes that “most kids look at it and they don’t really care, and that makes it a little awkward.”
Breanna also thinks that making connections is hard at first for incoming freshmen. “Coming into high school, you don’t really have the same amount of friends as in middle school, which makes it a little hard to get people involved,” she said.
Breanna has a final message for all her fellow freshmen. “I know it sounds kinda stupid, but you really only have four years of high school,” she said. “And I know I’m just a freshman, but [we only have] these four years of school. Then you’re on to college or a job. Then you’re off to the real world. So it’s time to stop thinking [that] high school is all fun and games.”
If you see Breanna on campus, be sure to say, hey. Let’s help her give freshmen a voice at our school!
