Eva Jeyranyan, the current President of the Class of 2026, is a 15-year-old sophomore at Glendale High School. Born and raised in the United States, Eva is part of the girls’ basketball team at our school, she enjoys participating in ASB, and she is currently focused on her school and studies.
How do you feel about being Sophomore Class President so far?
I really do enjoy being the Sophomore Class President, because [it gives me the opportunity to make decisions and collaborate] with a great group of people that help me put together a lot of different events. I really enjoy organizing fundraisers and doing stuff like Round-Up. It makes me feel very involved in the school environment.
Was there anything in particular about being president of the freshman class that made you want to run for that position again the following year?
I really enjoyed the whole process of making decisions and I figured [that] if I’m already doing one year, why not do another, and see how much better I get and [what] ideas I can come up with.
How do you feel differently this year, as class president, than how you felt last year?
This year I do feel that there is more work to focus on [as opposed to] last year, [where] we were kinda just getting started. I didn’t [understand] how [most] stuff worked, and [I and] the rest of the class were just eyeballing it and asking upperclassmen for [assistance].
[However,] now that it’s been a year, going on to the second year, [we know what] to do, we know how fundraisers work, what [will be successful] and what [won’t]. I’m able to think of ideas that’ll work as opposed to last year, [where] it was a lot of trial and error.
Are you more confident and comfortable with your position after having a year’s experience already?
Yeah, I’m a lot more comfortable with my position now. I feel confident knowing that I can put out fundraiser ideas that aren’t going to completely fail on us. I [now] know I should have a second plan [and] a third plan, [and] know what students like and what [they] don’t. I have more of an idea of how to cater to the school environment [compared to ninth grade] where I was just thinking about what would work financially, not things that people would actually enjoy.
What goals do you have for GHS during the next two years?
My number one goal for the next two years is to get as much money raised because we want to be able to keep doing fundraisers that are going to help work towards the goal for…senior prom. [I hope] that, not only do we have the bare minimum of a prom and a venue, but we can make it so that [during] our senior year and junior year, we can afford as [many] things as possible…and make it more enjoyable for the students and the people in ASB.
Apart from your responsibilities as class president, what other extracurricular activities are you or the student council participating in?
There’s a CTE program about Water Safety that is offered at this school. I basically get community service hours and help go teach there. It’s a good opportunity to help people trying to become certified in CPR…and just help people out to get them to understand what water safety is all about.
What upcoming activities should the sophomore class look forward to?
The sophomore class itself should really look forward to the rallies. As a freshman, last year most people were probably intimidated by the [upperclassmen], so this year I hope that they can be confident that they are the Class of 2026. And [I want them to] be more active in school. I also think they should be looking forward to Round-Up, which is coming up [on September 27th].
Why should other students join their class council?
Not only does it look great for your future college application, [but it also shows] you can work with other people and can make decisions. You [will also] feel a part of the community more. If you see something in the community that doesn’t [feel right] and you [have an idea] of how you would wanna change it,[you should] join ASB 100%. Once you go to your class council meetings, and you talk to your president, you [can definitely] bring some good ideas to the table and implement what you want to see and voice for the people.
Is there anything more you would like to add?
The main thing about ASB, that I think [may] get others more involved, is to remember that [it] is not just about fundraising and helping [raise] money, but it’s also about you. It’s so you can get a memorable experience for your future, and I want people to feel more emotion and strength [in] their viewpoint [towards] ASB. I know that even if I’m not the ASB president [in] the next following years, I can still help make decisions and contributions that can help make my [time at] high school better.
Eva would adore it if you joined ASB and became more involved.
