Polina Svigach is a senior at Glendale High School and is currently serving as our senior class president. She was born in Minsk, Belarus, and some of Polina’s hobbies include reading, writing short stories and journaling. She also volunteers at the Verdugo Hills Hospital.

An interesting fact about Polina is that she speaks multiple languages, which include English and Russian. “I understand more, because the dialect of Russian is very alike to surrounding areas,” she said.
Last year, Polina was elected treasurer of the junior class, and in the springtime, she had a plan and a dream with her friend, Sophia Tshabourian. They both decided to run for president and vice president of the senior class, hoping to bring the Class of 2026 together to make their class council a collaborative group, to hear everyone’s ideas.
Something that motivated Polina to run for senior class president is the idea of uniting her classmates and making senior year the way we all dream it can be. Her mother and sister are the people who motivated her to run for president. “They always believe in what you do,” she said, “Not only because they’re my family, but just because they always say [that] if you set your mind to it, you can do it.”
Polina’s plans as senior president are to raise as much money as possible and to make sure everyone has a good time. She is confident that everything will go smoothly, and she hopes that everyone will work together.

“By the end of the year, [I hope] this is something that people look back to and think, ‘Wow, I really enjoyed that,’” Polina said. So far, she feels really good about being the class president, and it helps that she has such a great class cabinet, full of smart, dedicated people. Everyone is doing their part so far, and the senior class has more spirit now than they’ve had in years past.
Other than ASB, Polina is the treasurer for the MENA Club, the secretary of the Model UN Club, and a member of the Color A Smile Club, the Impact Club, and GAME Club. She also has a job at Glendale Jewelry and Loan, where you can pawn jewelry for needed funds.
Polina believes that ASB is a great place for making friends, because you have to work with a diverse group of people, even ones that you wouldn’t normally talk to. “I think it’s really good, because you struggle together and grow together,” she stated. “And I met people who are really close to me who feel like my siblings.”

After high school, Polina plans on going to UC San Diego to study psychology as a career. She hopes to earn a medical degree and be the person who listens to those in need and prescribes medicine when necessary.
Polina admitted that she is going to miss the people she’s met in ASB, and she’ll also miss planning all of the events for her schoolmates. “The entirety of ASB is such a community,” she said.
Polina is also going to miss all of the Nitro students and teachers with whom she’s grown really close over the past four years. “I’m going to miss all my friends,” she said. “I know we’re all going different places.”
