The fifth season of the Fox TV series Prison Break debuted on April 4th, 2017, and it concluded on May 30th. Nelson McCormik directed these final nine episodes, and Paul Schuering was the showrunner and executive producer. You can stream this show right now on Netflix and Hulu.
Season Five of Prison Break is a perfect mix of mystery, action, and drama. The storyline is so captivating that it makes you want to binge-watch the entire season. The action is great, especially between Michael (Wentworth Miller) and the antagonist for this season, Poseidon (Mark Fuerstein). Miller is a great actor, but his role as Michael Schofield really seemed to boost his acting career.
This final season begins with Theodore “T-Bag” Bagwell (Robert Knepper) opening an envelope with an image of Michael inside, after he was presumed dead seven years ago. It turns out that Michael ended up in Ogygia, a prison located in Yemen. Michael has also been going under the new identity of Kanel Outis.
Season Five is a great ending to this series, since so many satisfying events occur, and every episode is one new setback to Michael’s plan to escape from Yemen and stop Poseidon.
Every new episode adds so much more to the plotline, so the story never gets repetitive. One of the most interesting aspects of this season is the future of the characters. For example, Kellerman has a wife and daughter, and Sarah has remarried to Jacob Ness, a history professor.
What I enjoyed most about this season is all the new characters that are introduced. The best ones are the people who are going to break out of the prison with Michael, including Jamil, David Martin, Sid, and the terrorist Abu Ramal. In particular, David Martin’s true identity is one of the best plot twists of this season.
Ramal is one of the best characters of these final nine episodes. His dangerous and manipulative personality makes him such an interesting villain, and he is one of the greatest antagonists in the history of the show.
The connections between the characters are also some of the greatest additions to this season. For example, the relationship between Poseidon and Michael adds so much to the story, because of the fierce conflict between them. Major plot twists occur every episode, especially after Michael leaves Yemen, which later adds Lincoln and Sara to Poseidon’s list of targets.
So you should definitely give this final season a try, and if you enjoy Prison Break, I suggest you also watch Severance and Better Call Saul, as they are two of the greatest shows of all time. All of these show’s storylines will keep you captivated for days.
