The Guardians of the Galaxy movies were directed and co-written by James Gunn and produced by Kevin Fiege, the captain of Marvel Studios. Fiege was also the first to announce that the Guardians of the Galaxy from Marvel Comics would be getting their own film, starting the most successful, magnificent series of movies I have ever seen.
This series follows a diverse group of intergalactic criminals who team up together to face the villains of the cosmos. This is a franchise I’m actually very passionate about. The actors all play their roles very well in the movies, and the CGI is immaculate. Everyone at Marvel Studios has given us a cinematic masterpiece.
The pacing of the stories and the introduction of each new character have been executed perfectly. One factor that I love about these movies is in the way they’ve been written. There is some foreshadowing always hidden in the little details of each script. The events of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies also play an important part in Avengers; Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, including the relationship between Peter Quill and Gamora.
The most memorable thing about these movies are the music choices, which include classic songs from the 1960’s and 1970’s. The music all fits really well into the films, because Peter has a cassette tape that was given to him by his mother, who unfortunately passed away from cancer when he was of a young age. The tape is the last thing he has as a reminder of her, and it becomes a key object that motivates his actions.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, released in 2014, is a spectacular beginning to the upcoming adventures that the team will eventually experience. It gained so much fame when it came out, and the franchise still carries these fans to this day.
In this film, we’re introduced to the main protagonists: Peter Quill, Drax, Groot, Rocket and Gamora. The opening scene, where Peter dances through the remains of a city on Planet Morag, is hilarious, and it’s definitely one of my most favorite Marvel clips of all time. Overall, the first movie is a perfect introduction to the Guardians and the whole concept of who they really are.
In the 2017 sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we dig a bit deeper into the mystery of the true identity of Peter Quill’s father. We also have our beloved character Mantis join the team as a recruit, and I just have to mention that she and Drax are such an iconic duo. The twists in this movie are absolutely shocking, and that’s what makes this film so good ,but also so heartbreaking.
The third movie in the series, which came out in 2023, is by far the best one. It was such an emotional rollercoaster watching this film in a movie theater for the first time, and no words can ever explain that feeling. The threequel is solely focused on Rocket’s backstory and how he was tortured as a test subject for the High Evolutionary when he was just a child.
A lot of people thought this movie would flop at first, because most fan believe that every Marvel movie after Endgame was lacking creativity and just milking the multiverse theory. But Vol. 3 is just pure perfection.
Chris Pratt has absolutely outdone himself with his acting and dialogue, and his screams sounded real, unscripted and flawless. I can safely say that I shed a tear as soon as the credits rolled.
You will never regret your decision to watch these movies, and even if you aren’t a huge Marvel fan, I really suggest you give each one of them a watch. These movies aren’t slop, and they did a really nice job of putting the comics on screen. All three of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies are currently streaming on Disney+, so go take a look right now!
