Tiffany Duarte is a senior at Glendale High School. She was born in Makati City, Philippines, and she likes shopping, reading, and watching dramas. She is currently serving as our ASB Vice President, and she is also the president of the UNICEF Club at our school.

The UNICEF Club had not previously been a club at GHS for several years. Tiffany had heard of the UNICEF organization and realized there wasn’t a club on our campus specifically focused on helping children, so she decided to restore it.
The club’s main purpose is to spread awareness about issues that children face around the world. Since the word “global” can be intimidating, they’ve decided to start by assisting local children in the city of Los Angeles.
Their club meetings serve as a way to decide on fundraising ideas as a group, or as an alternative, a cabinet member may introduce a community service activity for the members. Tiffany and her members recently held an after-school fundraiser and are planning to use the money to create hygiene kits for children, assisted by the Karo Hovagimian Charity Foundation in Armenia.
Tiffany’s favorite part of being the president of the UNICEF Club is that she doesn’t have to tell the members what to do. Instead, she guides them through each process, and everyone works together very well. Their community activities are more similar to a group of friends enjoying something together.
Students should join this club since it shares the same purpose as the official UNICEF organization. Their goal is to help make a difference in the lives of children, both locally and globally, and to find a way to earn valuable community service hours.
Tiffany is not worried when it comes to next year’s cabinet, since there are already great people ready to take over once she graduates in June. She hopes that students will give the UNICEF Club a chance and that the club will continue for many years to come.
After graduation, Tiffany sees herself attending a four-year university and majoring in biomedical engineering. She also sees herself joining a comparable UNICEF Club in college or volunteering for a similar organization that seeks to help children.
