Azucena Martinez is a junior at Glendale High School. Her parents moved to Glendale from Mexico, while she and her older brother were born and raised here. Azucena is also part of our Glendale Nitros softball team, and she is the president and founder of the Flowers for Seniors Club.

Azucena is a wonderful student at GHS, taking three AP classes and a couple of honors courses. She says she always tries her best to stay on task and finish her work as fast as possible so she doesn’t have any late assignments. Azucena also mentioned that she struggles with procrastination but has always tried her best to stay on top of her game. Azucena has also just started an internship at Glendale Memorial Hospital, so she’s trying her best to achieve in the future.
Outside of school, Azucena plays softball, goes out with her friends, and spends time with her family. Whenever she doesn’t have softball practice, she may go out to eat, go to different places, or just hang out at school.
Azucena founded the Flowers for Seniors Club to spread happiness. She wanted to show support and kindness to elderly people, to remind them that other people care about them. “I know how it feels to have a family member at the hospital alone with no one to visit them,” Azucena said. “So that’s why I think it’s important to show other people that are also in the hospital some support.”
This club was originally supposed to be supporting hospitals, but it recently got changed to nursing homes to show our elders some love. Azucena wants to spread happiness and support to those people who may or may not have any family members visiting them. She wants to show them that they are needed and loved by other people.
Azucena is many things, but she is ultimately a wonderful student, athlete, and club president. She is showing our elderly community that they matter and have people who are there for them. She shows support to many people, as she has a big heart. If you have any questions regarding the Flowers for Seniors Club, please contact their advisor, Ms. Carbajal at [email protected]. And if you see Azucena around campus, say hello!
