Anne Hathaway knows how to be a princess!
The Princess Diaries was released twenty-three years ago, and it was written by Gina Wendkos and directed by Garry Marshall. You can watch this movie now on Disney+ and Hulu with a subscription, or you can rent it on Amazon Prime, YouTube, Fandango at Home, and Apple TV.
The Princess Diaries is a nostalgic and heartwarming movie about a young girl named Mia Thermopolis, played by Hathaway, who lives in San Francisco and eventually finds out that she is a princess. The movie follows Mia as she makes this life-changing discovery.
This movie is beautifully written and has a great plot, which is very smooth and interesting. I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen next. And if you are interested, the movie was based on a book written by Meg Cabot.
The actors in this movie do a great job portraying their characters. Julie Andrews plays Mia’s grandmother, Queen Clarisse Renaldi, and she does an amazing job showing the connection between herself and her granddaughter.
Mia also has a best friend named Lilly Moscovitz, played by Heather Matarazzo, who does a stunning job portraying a teenage girl’s feelings after finding out her best friend is a princess. Mia and Lily’s friendship changes throughout the movie, just like any real teenage relationship does, and the writers have done a great job showing that.
Mia’s transition into becoming a princess is such a memorable scene in the movie. Many little girls have always wanted to be a princess, and Mia’s transformation has been a dream for many girls. This scene gives a whole new definition to a makeover.
One of my favorite scenes in the movie is when Queen Clarisse puts off all her meetings and plans to spend the day completely with Mia. It shows the care she has for her granddaughter and how much she loves her. This scene illustrates the beginning of the strong connection between the two of them.
After watching most of this movie, you can only hope it has a satisfying ending, and you won’t be disappointed. The Princess Diaries has the perfect conclusion for anyone who loves movies from the early-2000s.
I think the message, and the nostalgic feeling of this movie, is why it has held up so well over the years. Many of the teenagers who watched the movie when it first released are now adults, with families of their own, and they can show The Princess Diaries to their kids, who will love it just as much as they did.
Overall, this movie has such sweet characters that you will fall in love with, and there are many heartwarming scenes. For these reasons and many more, I would give The Princess Diaries my highest recommendation.
