The Fall Guy is a 2024 movie directed by David Leitch, and it stars Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. You can watch it at home now on Amazon Prime and YouTube.
I enjoyed this movie so much that I´d pick it as Movie of the Year, if it was up to me. A lot of the new movies coming out this year just haven’t been very good, but The Fall Guy has completely changed that.
The story follows a stuntman named Colt, who has just gone through a career-ending accident, and he must track down a famous missing movie star, solve a mystery and try to win back the love of his life, all while still being a stuntman. What could possibly go right? Combining elements of romance and thrilling action, while also featuring Ryan Gosling’s strong performance, the story will excite you and keep you hooked from start to finish.
The Fall Guy highlights the importance of stuntmen in the film industry. Watching the movie really shows the audience how stunt performers are key to action movies, making dangerous scenes look so real, while keeping everyone safe.
Without stuntmen, most movies, especially action movies, wouldn’t be as beloved as they are to this day. These people are trained to do actions that most actors can’t do, and they do it with so much skill that they captivate audiences by what they see on the screen. Without them, many action scenes in movies would be impossible, and most movies would be less exciting.
Ryan Gosling does a fantastic job at playing a stuntman who’s struggling to pull his life back together again. He portrays a complex character, balancing toughness with vulnerability in a way that feels real to the audience. Gosling’s acting keeps people emotionally invested in his character and in the movie. His performance is raw and honest, but also lighthearted, which you see in many of the movies in which he appears.
Emily Blunt’s performance as Jody is also outstanding. She plays a movie director with impressive authority and charisma. She brings a sense of intelligence and control to the role, making it easy to believe that she takes charge on the set. Her acting in the movie comes off as confident and sharp, and she always demands the attention of others. Even in scenes where she becomes vulnerable and is in danger, she still keeps her intimidating aura.
The chemistry between Gosling and Blunt in the film is the movie’s strongest element. Even with all the action and all the twists, their love story is what truly hooks most of the audience. The dialogue between them feels so natural and effortless, as if they are a real couple, creating a dynamic that really draws people in.
My favorite part about their relationship is the presence of modern trendy jokes, like when Colt is in the car listening to sad, girly pop music, crying about his love for Jody. It shows the audience that not all relationships have to be serious, and you can be best friends with your partner.
The Fall Guy struggles to capture your attention in the earlier scenes, relying on heavy dialogue that doesn’t really stick with the audience right away. Instead of diving straight into the action, the movie spends a bit too much of its time on character introductions, making the beginning feel slow and less engaging.
It also takes a while for the interesting plot points to be revealed and for the story to pick up some momentum, and this stretch of the film feels a bit tedious. However, despite this slow start, the movie eventually delivers its action packed twists and solid-performance, making it an enjoyable experience overall.
In the end, The Fall Guy is an incredible movie with blends of action, comedy, and romance. I can’t give away too many details about this movie, because one thing leads to another and the plot is full of surprises. But this movie about a special stuntman is definitely worth the watch, especially if you’re a big fan of Ryan Gosling.
