As the president of the Armenian Club, Glendale High School senior Armine Zelveyan has a lot of other interests on campus. She is on the girl’s varsity water polo team and the swim team, she is the ASB Director of Communications, and she also likes painting and watching rom-com movies.
Armine works hard to bring students together and help them feel proud of their Armenian roots. She plays a key role in the Armenian Club, and her Armenian culture is important to her. Her ultimate goal is to help others to connect with their heritage.
Armine’s journey as the president of the Armenian Club began with her deep love for her culture and history. She believes that this organization is very necessary and beneficial on our campus because our school has a large Armenian population. “We have a goal to inspire Armenian students with our fun games, so they want to join us,” she said.
Armine and her club members manage various events over the course of the school year, the largest of which is the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day Assembly which is held every year in April. Other events they are going to hold include an Armenian Movie Night and hand painting.
“The biggest challenge that the Armenian Club faces today is that they are a small group of people and can’t [always] stick together,” Armine said. “So we need more people to join us.”
For Armine, being part of the Armenian Club means that she can create great memories with her friends. It feels amazing to be a part of such an important organization on campus, and she is proud of what this club has accomplished so far.
The Armenian Club is more than a group, but is truly a family. Its members welcome everyone to join them in celebrating Armenian culture and creating lasting memories together.
