Romance: Untold, was released on July 12, 2024, by the K-pop group Enhypen. This was also the group’s second studio album, and if you aren’t familiar with or have never heard of this group, you are really missing out
Enhypen is a seven-member South Korean boy band, formed by BELIFT LAB, in collaboration with HYBE and CJ ENM. The members include Heeseung, Jungwon, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, and Ni-ki. They were formed through a competition reality show called, I-LAND, before officially debuting on November 30, 2020.
Enhypen has promoted its songs on every streaming platform, and the album became a huge hit in the K-pop community. They sang and performed their songs during their Fan Showcase in July, which was live-streamed on YouTube.
Romance: Untold has received 2.2 million pre-orders during the first week of its release. So far, Enhypen has released one studio album, six mini-albums, two single albums, six digital singles, and one repackaged album, all before releasing Romance: Untold.
The album has nine tracks, and one of them is called “Moonstruck,” which is about taking a loved one on a moonlit date night because they are “moonstruck” by them. The song in general has a dreamy and gloomy vibe to it. The members deliver the song lyrics perfectly, and the vocals and lyrics accurately capture the song’s message of getting moonstruck because of love. This also gives the vibe that this is what being in love feels like, and this song doesn’t miss one bit! “Moonstruck” is also one of the best album openers I have heard so far.
The second song on the album, titled “XO (Only If You Say Yes)” is about someone willing to do anything, as long as the person they like says yes. The band members sound really good off the bat, and the chorus is so well-written, which makes it stand out. The tune and rhythm are quite enjoyable, and the other members really stand out from their vocals. It seems like they have been improving through the years, which I like.
Meanwhile, “Your Eyes Only,” the third song on the album, is about a partner who is their happiness in daily life. Jungwon sings, “Let’s sugar talk!” He then follows with, “Our special language! Read more!” This conveys that he likes talking to and appreciating that special someone. The members’ vocals on this one are angelic, which can captivate you into listening to it a lot more. There’s also a lot of repetition in the lyrics, which can make this song get stuck in your head.
Lastly, “Highway 1009” is another great song on the album, and it conveys the idea of the group helping Engenes (the name for their fandom) throughout their tough times. This song is honestly my favorite, because it acts as the group’s love letter to their fanbase.
The vocals and harmonies on this track are mellow and simple, making the song comforting and feel like a warm hug. The group does a great job with this song, and it’s the type of track that you can listen to on any type of day.
Overall, this album gives me mixed feelings, but I encourage you to listen to it, especially if you’re into that “lover” type of music and concept. Overall, this album is a weird transition, because their previous albums, Dark Blood and Orange Blood, have a darker concept, which I honestly prefer. But this album suits Enhypen’s personality a little better, so I get why other fans may like this album more than the others.
But if you like the songs on this album, you can also listen to Hundred Broken Hearts, Brought the Heat Back, Paranormal, and Royalty. I hope Enhypen performs these songs during their Walk the Line Tour this year!
