In the world of culinary arts, you will be lucky to meet someone with as much passion and dedication as Ms. Alexx Ivie, our beloved chef and popular culinary teacher at Glendale High School. With more than thirteen years of experience as a food stylist and private chef, she has built a career that showcases her talents in the kitchen and inspires young chefs to also pursue a career in the culinary field. Her journey throughout her career is based on entrepreneurship and a love for food.
Ms. Ivie’s love for cooking began with her grandmother, who taught her the joy of preparing meals. This was the spark that ignited her culinary career, leading her to graduate from Le Cordon Bleu. She eventually jumped right into the industry, even working for free at first to gain experience and build her reputation.
Ms. Ivie always aspired to be her boss and create her own business. She has worked for many pro athletes and some entertainers. By promoting herself on social media, she slowly made a name for herself in such a competitive field.
Now in her second year of teaching culinary arts at GHS, Ms. Ivie described her experience as “a lot of fun.” She said, “I enjoy teaching at Glendale High, and I get super excited when we make new dishes and engage my students in class with my new ideas.”
Ms. Ivie’s favorite dishes to prepare include seafood, calling them “buttery and fire.” She takes pride in helping her students and inspiring them to pursue careers in the culinary arts.
One of the best parts of Ms Ivie’s job is introducing students to new cooking experiences. She loves the excitement of discovering new recipes and sharing them with her students, to keep them engaged in the classroom.
“I try to make my classroom a stress-free place, so students can feel comfortable and allow themselves to get creative,” she explained. She has made her classroom a safe space for others, by playing soft music and being relatable to her students.
Through her dedication to teaching and her love for cooking, Ms. Ivie shows what it means to be a great mentor. She is not just a teacher, but she is someone her students can turn to for advice on pursuing their future culinary journeys.
As she continues to turn up the heat in the kitchen, Ms. Ivie is shaping the future of culinary arts, one student at a time! Get cooking, Nitros!
