17 Is Right Here, was released on April 29, 2024, by the K-pop group Seventeen, and produced by Woozi & Bumzu. It became a massive hit for fans, because it was such a huge album, and it achieved a record-breaking 2.2 million copies sold on their first-day of sales. Anyway, if you don’t know who this group is, let me tell you all about them!
Seventeen is a South Korean boy group formed by Pledis Entertainment. The band consists of thirteen members: Scoups, Jeonghan, Jun, Joshua, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, The8, Mingyu, DK, Seungkwan, Vernon & Dino.
Seventeen debuted on May 26th, 2015. Originally, the band was supposed to be seventeen members, but the four members left before their debut album, Love & Letter, was released.
Seventeen has come out with four studio albums, thirteen EP’s, twenty-two singles and three compilation albums, before this most recent release.
When 17 Is Right Here was released, fans went crazy over it, especially because of their hit song, “MAESTRO”. It didn’t take long for fans to hop onto the trend on Tik Tok, which made the album catch a lot of attention.
The album was announced on March 31, 2024, during Seventeen’s Follow Tour. Meanwhile, the group announced that they will be releasing one more album in 2024. As for the title of their most recent album, there is no official statement on the meaning behind the title.
One of the best tracks on 17 Is Right Here is “Spell”, sung by the Performance Unit of the group, consisting of Hoshi, The8, Jun and Dino. This song is about two lovers with a deep connection for each other. The words “ocean view” are referenced multiple times in the song.
Another ong, “LALALI”, is performed by the Hip Hop Unit, consisting of Mingyu, Wonwoo, Scoups and Vernon. This song is about the essence of the youthful rebellion and the wish to live freely, despite society’s expectations and norms.
The lyrics on this track bring a sense of assurance, as the group refuses to abide by the criticisms or expectations of other people. The song’s title, “La-la-li” translates to “It’s ridiculous”, indicating the group’s dismissive attitude towards the negativity and criticisms.
Lastly, “청춘찬가 (Cheers to youth)” is sung by the Vocal Unit, consisting of Joshua, Seungkwan, Jeonghan, DK & Woozi. This song focuses on the challenges and negative feelings that go along with being young. The lyrics address the search for your own happiness, in a world that is sometimes suffocating.
Overall, this album has exceeded the expectations from Carats and non-Carats alike, and I hope they perform their new releases at their upcoming concert!
And if you like this album, you should also listen to “CALL CALL CALL!” and “今 -明日 世界が終わっても-‘ (Ima -Even if the world ends tomorrow-)”. You will marvel at how much effort Seventeen has put into these songs!
